Kuok Foundation Berhad - Loans/Grants



The Kuok Foundation Berhad was set up by the Kuok family, namely by Tan Sri Kuok Hock Nien, the richest man in Malaysia.

This foundation do award scholarships for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. Under the Undergraduate category, there are two sub-categories i.e. for:-

1) Malaysian Public Universities and Singapore Public Universities (Application Form)

For students in Malaysian Public Universities, the value of each award will be:-
a) up to RM9,000 p.a. for students reading Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Medical Science, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture, Information Technology, Housing, Building & Planning, Quantity Surveying, Optometry and Physiotherapy.
b) up to RM8,000 p.a. for students reading other courses not mentioned in (a).

For students in Singapore Public Universities, the value of each award will be:-
a) up to RM28,000 p.a. for students reading Medicine & Dentistry.
b) up to RM20,000 p.a. for students reading courses other than Medicine & Dentistry.

Eligibility:-
a) Only Malaysian citizens are eligible to apply.
b) Applicants should possess good academic qualifications and should be active in school.
c) Kuok Foundation Undergraduate Awards are for needy students only.
d) Only undergraduates / prospective undergraduates reading for a first degree are eligible to apply.

Type and Value of Award:-
Loans or half-loan half-grants ranging from RM10,000 to RM25,000 per annum depending on courses undertaken.

Eligibility:-
a) Malaysian Citizenship
b) Genuine financial need and good academic results. Must possess relevant pre-university qualifications, eg. STPM or equivalent.

In the Postgraduate category, there is this Tun Hussein Onn Memorial Scholarship which is for the Masters degree programme in Law at the University of Malaya. (Application Form)

You must have obtained a Second Class Upper Honours degree in Law or its equivalent, from a recognised University and must qualify for admission into the University of Malaya for the LLM programme before you can think of applying for this scholarship.

Type and Value of Award:-
The scholarship will cover course fees as well as a stipend of RM18,000/- per annum for living expenses. An additional allowance of RM1,800/- will be provided for dissertation, if applicable.

An additional condition is that upon completion of studies, the scholars must remain in Malaysia to work for the public or private sector for a minimum period of 5 years.

Khazanah Nasional Berhad Scholarships

Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the Malaysian government's investment holding arm and the strategic investor in new industries and markets has a scholarship foundation for those qualified candidates

Undergraduate Studies
Open to eligible candidates who have obtained admission to pursue undergraduate study at premier universities in the United Kingdom or the United States.

Students who are currently pursuing undergraduate studies in their first or second year in premier universities in the United Kingdom or the United States are also invited to apply. (Application Form)

Who can apply?
-Malaysian citizens
-Applicants must have consistent and outstanding academic records in the one of the following:-
-A-levels: obtained a minimum of 3As and 1B
-Foundation Studies: minimum 3.75 CGPA
-Bachelor’s Degree: minimum 3.5 CGPA
-Strong leadership skills and active participation in extra-curricular activities
-Passed SPM with credits in Bahasa Melayu and English

Postgraduate Studies
I. Masters Degree
Open to eligible candidates who have obtained admission to pursue graduate studies at a premier universities in the United Kingdom or the United States. (Application Form)

Who can apply?
-Malaysian citizens
-Not exceeding 35 years of age as at 1 July 2007
-Bachelors Degree with a minimum of second class upper (Hons) or equivalent from Malaysian or foreign universities
-Strong leadership skills and active participation in extra-curricular, social or voluntary activities
-Passed SPM with credits in Bahasa Melayu and English

II. Phd
Open to eligible candidates who have obtained admission to pursue doctoral studies at premier universities in the United Kingdom or the United States. Students who are currently pursuing doctoral studies in their first or second year at premier universities in the United Kingdom or the United States are also invited to apply. (Application Form)

Who can apply?
-Malaysian citizens
-Not exceeding 40 years of age as at 1 July 2007
-Obtained a distinction or ‘A’ grade average or equivalent at the Masters level
-Strong leadership skills and active participation in extra-curricular, social or voluntary activities
-Passed SPM with credits in Bahasa Melayu and English

Great Eastern Life Assurance Scholarships




Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad ("Great Eastern") do offer three types of scholarships which catered for overseas, regional and local public/private universities.

Great Eastern's Supremacy Scholarship Award (Overseas), which is being awarded biennially, is opened to all Malaysians who are attending or have obtained confirmed or conditional admission into top-notched universities overseas pursuing their first degree in either Actuarial Science or Information Technology.

Upon graduation, you will be required to enter into a 7-year bond with Great Eastern. The scholarship is worth RM70,000 per academic year for the course duration.

Another one of Great Eastern's unique scholarship is the Supremacy Regional Scholarship Award, caters only for Malaysian students who are have obtained or in the process of gaining admission for first degree courses at 13 specific China universities as follows:-

The third scholarship that Great Eastern offers is the Supremacy Local Scholarship Award is also unique. It only caters for Great Eastern's insurance policyholders or immediate children of the insurance policyholders (in force for more than three years).

Upon graduation, you will be required to enter into a 3-year bond with Great Eastern. The scholarship is worth RM13,700 (public universities) or RM16,700 (private universities) per academic year (which is for academic fees, compulsory campus fees or sum as determined by the university, and living expenses) for the course duration.

Genting Sanyen Malaysia Scholarship

Genting Sanyen Power Sdn Bhd ("GSP"), a member of the Genting Group, is offering scholarships to Malaysians who are

GSP has offered the following scholarships to Malaysian students based in Universiti Tenaga Nasional ("UNITEN") only:-

GSP do offer scholarhips under the Foundation programme and the value for this scholarship is around RM8,000 or RM9,000 per annum again depending on your foundation course.

Bank Negara Malaysia Scholarship Award





Bank Negara Malaysia ("BNM"), the central bank of Malaysia, do provide scholarships to Malaysians to further their education locally or at overseas universities. It caters for First Degree and Post Graduate Studies (Masters Degree and PhD).

BNM will fund the following field of studies:-
* Economics
* Financial Engineering
* Accounting
* Actuarial Science
* Banking and Finance
* Corporate Finance
* Islamic Banking and Economics
* Law
* Syariah Law
* Information Technology
* Mathematics
* Engineering

You have to note this - you are not supposed to surpass the age of 30 and 40 for the Masters Degree and PhD studies respectively.

Wawasan Open University Scholarship

Wawasan Open University ("WOU") is Malaysia's first private, not-for-profit and an open learning institution. It was mooted by Wawasan Education Foundation at the Gerakan National Delegates Conference in Penang way back in 1999 but the university was only established in June 2006.

WOU adopts an Open Distance Learning system where education is imparted to learners who may not be physically present on campus. With this philosophy, it allows students from various places, backgrounds and of different timing to study for their undergraduate degree at their own pace with the help of information technology.

Currently, WOU offers the following ten degree programmes:

Singapore Scholarship 2007/2008

The Singapore government has opened its scholarship for the academic year 2007/2008 to ASEAN students. The scholarship is for full-time undergraduate degree courses at the Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University.

Duration for the scholarship is for 3 or 4 years depending on the discipline. The scholarship will cover full tuition fees, living allowance of S$4,300 per annum, accommodation allowance & one return economy air ticket. All applications must be submitted to the Singapore High Commission at Jalan Tun Razak by 22 March 2007.

AHC Visual Arts Residency 2007

Australian High Commission Visual Arts Residency at Gunnery Studios, Sydney open to visual artists in Malaysia -Under the Cultural Program of the Australian Hign Comission in Malaysia, a Malaysian artist will be selected to be based in Sydney for 2-3 months to hone their skills and create new artworks.

It's a good exposure for budding artist and the residency will be at Gunnery Studios. The studios are part of the Gunnery Visual Arts Centre which was refurbished by the Ministry for the Arts and opened in September 1992. The Gunnery currently houses Artspace, the National Association for the Visual Arts, the Museum and Galleries Foundation of NSW and Biennale of Sydney. The studios are managed by Artspace Visual Arts Centre.

Past years’ Resident Artists include Yee I-Lann, Abdul Multhalib Musa, Noor Mahnun Mohamed and Roslisham Ismail.

M.I.T. Degrees For Free

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology ("MIT"), through the OpenCourseWare ("OCW")movement, will by the end of this year will offer the contents of all 1,800 courses taught at one of the world's most prestigious universities online to anyone in the world, anywhere in the world. Learners won't have to register for the classes, and everyone is accepted.

This MIT OCW is part of a OCW Consortium which includes Tufts University in Medford, Mass and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in the United States. Amongst its consortium members are the Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Utah State. Internationally, members include groups of universities in China, Japan and Spain.
